Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree trains operators with all knowledge and skills needed to perform technical procedures and carry out methods of oral disease prevention as well as dental health education activities. They participate in primary prevention projects within the framework of the Italian Public Health System.
It provides adequate theoretical and practical training in key disciplines for a better understanding of the most relevant elements underlying pathological processes in developing age, adulthood and geriatric age. Furthermore, such training conveys methods and culture needed for lifelong learning, as well as a level of professional, decision-making and operational autonomy resulting from theoretical and practical training. This includes behavioural skills and is achieved in a specific working context, so that graduates can fully master all necessary skills and immediately use them in the workplace.
Course attendance is mandatory for all activities - both theoretical classes and traineeship.
This Degree qualifies graduates as Dental Hygienists, i.e. healthcare operators who follow the advice of Dentists and Doctors who may practice Dentistry. They can hence perform tasks in dental disease prevention and work in public or private healthcare facilities, both as employees or freelancers.
Graduates provide dental health education and participate in primary prevention projects within the public health system; they contribute to drafting oral medical records and collect technical-statistical data; they perform debridement, root planing and topical application of preventive treatments; they instruct on oral hygiene methods and diagnostic tools used to highlight bacterial plaque and dental patina, thus motivating the need for periodic clinical controls; they suggest rational nutrition standards to protect dental health.
