Description and Teaching Objectives

This Degree trains healthcare professionals in rehabilitation who perform activities aimed at prevention, care, rehabilitation and functional evaluation procedures for individuals with mental disabilities and the whole community.
Students are provided with appropriate training in basic disciplines to understand the main features of pathological processes on which rehabilitative interventions focus. In particular, students develop skills regarding biochemical, physical, statistical, anatomical, physiological, pathological, clinical, surgical, psychological and sociological issues. They can hence acquire solid basic knowledge of integrated biological aspects and functions relating to human organs and systems. This includes statistical methods to detect phenomena regulating human personal and social life, as well as the concepts of emergency and first aid in close interaction with the studied disciplines. Such training is completed through skills typical of Psychiatry, Language, Child Neuropsychiatry, Psychology and Neurology.
At the end of the course students shall be able to carry out rehabilitative and educational interventions for individuals with mental disabilities as part of a therapeutic project developed in a multidisciplinary team.
Professional skills are achieved through theoretical and practical training including the acquisition of proper behaviour in a specific working context relevant to each professional profile, so as to ensure mastery of the required skills and their use in the workplace.

Course attendance is mandatory for all activities - both theoretical classes and traineeship.

Career Opportunities

This Degree qualifies graduates as Technicians of Psychiatric Rehabilitation, i.e. healthcare operators who perform educational and rehabilitative interventions for individuals with mental disabilities in collaboration with a multi-professional team.
Graduates can contribute to assessing individuals' mental disabilities and potential, analysing needs and evolutionary instances, revealing resources arising from family and social-environmental backgrounds, working to identify training and therapeutic objectives also relating to psychiatric rehabilitation.
Possible work opportunities within public or private health facilities and services as employees or freelancers include: drafting specific intervention programmes aimed at the recovery and development of treated individuals; interventions aimed at qualifying and rehabilitating individuals in terms of self-care, different levels of interpersonal relationships and, where possible, working activities; primary prevention in local areas to promote the development of network relationships, support acceptance and management in situations where manifested diseases pose a threat; interventions in the family and social context where individuals live in order to facilitate their reintegration into the community; assessment of qualifying and rehabilitation programmes for individuals; training for support staff and lifelong learning.
