Games of the XXXIII Olympiad

Joint Communication by Rome State Universities

In light of the start of selection procedures for the city hosting the Games of the XXIII Olympiad, the Rectors of Rome State Universities unanimously expressed their willingness to support the candidature of Italy’s Capital City. They stated their full readiness to support the action taken to this end by the 2024 Olympic Committee, chaired by Lawyer Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.
In the words of the four Magnifici Rectors, the Universities of Rome La Sapienza, Tor Vergata, Roma Tre and Foro Italico agreed on the fact that choosing Rome as a venue for such an important event would allow the crucial combination of culture and sports to be fully represented to the eyes of the world in an original way - all of which would make the Italian proposal unique.
More than a century after de Coubertin launched the first Olympic Games of modern times, the arts, history and tradition represented by the ‘Eternal City’ would harmoniously combine with all energies and initiatives linked to the Olympics.
The Rectors believe that being so rich in historical and architectural heritage - a heritage belonging to the whole world - and being a tourist destination of international appeal as well as an attraction pole for science and businesses, Rome is the ideal setting to communicate the ethical values of sports. Moreover, it can promote physical culture as a fundamental element for a harmonious development of individuals and convey the importance of education for young people from an intellectual and physical point of view. Hence, the timeless message of the Olympic Games in ancient Greece is renewed once again in the digital era.
In faith,
Professor Eugenio Gaudio, Rector of the University of Rome La Sapienza
Professor Giuseppe Novelli, Rector of the University of Rome Tor Vergata
Professor Mario Panizza, Rector of Roma Tre University
Professor Fabio Pigozzi, Rector of the University of Rome Foro Italico
