This Degree was set up as a collaboration among the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Confindustria Frosinone and local authorities (Municipality of Ceccano, Lazio Regional Administration and Province of Frosinone). It is hence closely connected with the local productive fabric (with over 150 companies the Province of Frosinone is the second Italian industrial district for the chemical sector).
This Degree trains experts with extensive basic skills in Chemistry who can also deal with industrial production processes, environmental issues, healthcare, technical standards, certification systems, security, intellectual property, quality control, international relations, resource management and logistics.
The first two years are devoted to basic training in key Chemistry subjects (Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry) as well as Physics and Mathematics. Each subject is taught in two half-year classes integrating lectures, numerical exercises and laboratory work.
During the first semester of the third year students deepen their curricular knowledge, whereas during the second semester they shall carry out a compulsory internship within an industrial research facility dealing with their curriculum subjects. Such training is completed through elective courses in which students can experience some applicative Chemistry aspects.
Graduates can access the Italian state exam for Junior Chemist with the following functions: assistance to specialists in activities relating to Chemistry research or activities requiring the implementation of Chemistry procedures and protocols; application of defined and predetermined protocols and consolidated knowledge; laboratory test performers and developers for new products supervised by a Senior Chemist under a pre-established programme.
Moreover, Junior Chemists perform the characterisation of new products and take part in tests on new technologies; basing on product specifications, they carry out chemical tests and quality controls requiring mastery of chemical and instrumental techniques, including complex ones; they draft reports on analysis results; they use standardised methods such as chemical analysis; they aim at managing chemical laboratories; they provide expertise and advice in the field of Pure and Applied Chemistry; they deal with customer queries advising them on product use and match their needs with development laboratory activities, production and marketing.
They can work in: public and private research institutions, testing laboratories, quality control and certification, public and private bodies and companies as employees or consultants, industries and workplaces that require basic knowledge in Chemistry.
Graduates can access a Master Degree in Chemistry at Tor Vergata with no further ECTS required.
