Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree trains technicians who shall operate and maintain equipment for extracorporeal circulation and haemodynamic techniques: students explore their theoretical and practical aspects to acquire all relevant skills.
The first year is designed to provide basic knowledge of Biomedicine and Preventive Hygiene, as well as professional fundamentals which students shall master in order to successfully deal with their first traineeship experience. Hence, students can become acquainted with professional reference fields and relevant basic skills.
The second year aims at deepening knowledge of Interventional Cardiology, Vascular Diagnostics, Pneumology, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery in the Adult. In order to acquire professional skills to perform echocardiographic examinations, tests assessing cardiorespiratory functions and to manage extracorporeal circulation in the adult, students must complete traineeships in all relevant areas.
The third year is devoted to the study of techniques of paediatric extracorporeal circulation as well as blood circulation assistance. Furthermore, students shall acquire knowledge and methods related to their professional practice, including team work skills in complex organisational environments. A traineeship allows students to be supervised and experiment gradual growth in terms of autonomy and responsibility, as well as the acquisition of skills and scientific research methods to support them while drafting dissertations.
Course attendance is mandatory for all activities - both theoretical classes and traineeship.
Career Opportunities
This Degree qualifies graduates as Technicians in Cardiocirculatory and Cardiovascular Perfusion
Graduates may find employment both as employees and freelancers in hospital services and units - be in university or private facilities. Their tasks are exclusively technical: they assist medical staff in suitable environments by providing essential information or operating diagnostic equipment for haemodynamics or substituting cardiovascular functions under medical supervision.
Working areas include: cardiac surgery; oncology for local antiblastic treatment; cardiology for technical echocardiographic examinations; centres for haemodynamics and cardiac catheterisation; outpatients instrumental diagnostics and/or use of telemedicine in production industries and sales agencies involved in this sector; university and non-university research laboratories in biomedical fields.
