Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree deepens methodological, applicative and construction aspects of Civil Engineering, hence conveying knowledge and disciplines that contribute to identifying and solving problems related to buildings and infrastructure systems for mankind. Subjects include: design, construction and management of buildings, roads, hydraulic and transport systems, plants, organisational systems.
This course is divided into two curricula providing general training in Civil Engineering: Structures and Geotechnics and Infrastructure and Transport Systems.
The Structures and Geotechnics curriculum aims at training professionals with specific skills who can manage maintenance, direct construction works, design and possibly consolidate typical works in Structural Engineering (buildings made of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel and masonry) and Geotechnical Engineering (earthen constructions, foundations, tunnels, excavations and support works).
The Infrastructure and Transport Systems curriculum aims at training professionals who are not only well prepared in Civil Engineering, but can also master specific skills in managing network systems in areas such as services, distribution and transport in order to perform maintenance, direct construction works and design works relating to Infrastructure Engineering, e.g. roads, railways, airports, bridges, tunnels and underground works.
Graduates can work in a number of areas such as design, production, management and organisation, support for technical and commercial facilities, risk analysis, safety management for prevention and emergencies. Moreover, they can operate as freelancers as well as in the manufacturing sector, in services or in public administration.
They can find employment at construction and maintenance companies dealing with civil works, plants and civil infrastructure; firms and companies designing works, plants and infrastructure; public offices dealing with design, planning, management and control of urban and territorial systems; businesses, organisations, consortia, system management and control agencies for works and services; service companies performing feasibility studies on urban and territorial infrastructural impact.
