Disparities in access to healthcare predate the financial crisis and have worsened with the following austerity policies. A high level of protection of human health is not only an SDG but is a milestone of the Treaty of Lisbon, prerequisite of economic growth and not only a basic human right.

In this comparison across OECD countries of the health status of people and health system performances comes out that the improving life expectancy is explained not only with the health spending, which is nonetheless critical but with wider social determinants like education. Expenditure on health must be effective.

Nations agree to ban fishing in Arctic Ocean for at least 16 years

A deal to prevent unregulated fishing in the central Arctic Ocean area, become more accessible because of the thinning ice, and with an increased production of plankton which is modifying the marine ecosystem has been reached among coastal nations and other countries with interests in the region.

World’s most comprehensive map showing the amount of carbon stocks in the soil launched

Global wealth is rising at the fastest pace since the financial crisis, with the United States at the first place, and a consistent perspective of growth for developing economies, expected to reach a 22 percent of the total in the next five years. But the outlook for the bottom of the wealth pyramid is not optimistic.

Slavery is a condition concerning 40 million people worldwide, yet it is not defined in law. It includes practices of human exploitation under violence, coercion, deception and or abuse of power, ranging from forced labor to forced marriage. One in four victims of slavery is a child.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities 3 December

Proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations, this Day is legally boosted by the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, which was the first comprehensive human rights treaty, implemented by the 2030 Agenda and its intent to “leave no one behind”, to make disabled persons as agents of change and not only beneficiaries.

Rise in malaria cases sparks fears of a resurgence

Diving scientists report big changes beneath Antarctic ice shelf
