Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree provides students with detailed training on prevention as far as hygiene of life and working environment are concerned.
In particular, the basics of prevention in hygiene of life and working environment are thoroughly dealt with, as well as sampling of different environmental matrices and the assessment of major environmental parameters and pollutants. Such disciplines are completed with: fundamental notions and methods of Descriptive and Inferential Statistics and Computer Science; the study of cause-effect dynamics in chemical, physical and biological pollution; prevention strategies and quantitative tools in Epidemiology; legal rules on hygiene and environmental safety.
Graduates acquire the skills needed to perform supervision and inspection operations in life and working environments. Furthermore, such training conveys skills to interact and collaborate with inter-professional teams, for staff training, lifelong learning as well as English skills.
Particular importance is given to practical activities and clinical training, as they are an integral and qualifying part of vocational education. Those are carried out under dedicated, professional tutors' supervision and guidance and are coordinated by a high-level professor.
Course attendance is mandatory for all activities - both theoretical classes and traineeship.
Career Opportunities
This Degree qualifies graduates as Technicians of Environment and Workplace Prevention.
Graduates can make the most of their education and cover responsibility roles in prevention, monitoring and control in hygiene and environmental safety in life and working fields, foods and beverage hygiene, public health and veterinary hygiene. They can perform investigations aimed at granting authorisations or technical/health clearances for activities subject to control; they initiate, determine, challenge and notify all detected irregularities and formulate opinions within the framework of their competences.
Their specific functions of supervision and control apply to the following fields: accidents and occupational diseases; compliance of facilities and environments with respect to relevant activities and safety in plants; food and beverage quality from production to consumption (including assessing any specialist investigations); veterinary health and hygiene; cosmetic products; investigations into crimes against the environment in cooperation with the judicial authorities.
Graduates can work as employees or freelancers within the national health service for any service of prevention, control and supervision provided by the legislation in force.
