Information on the foundation Course at Tor Vergata University.
The Foundation Course is a one-year, English-taught programme that prepares international students for degree-level study at Italian universities. It is open to two groups of applicants:
- those who have completed secondary school abroad but either fall short of the 12 years of schooling required for admission to Italian universities or do not hold a school-leaving qualification that is recognised for university entry in their home country or in Italy;
- who do meet the 12-year requirement but want to improve their academic grounding and their language proficiency before beginning a degree.
Requirements
- Schooling: You must hold a final secondary school diploma that completes upper secondary education and grants access to university in the country where it was awarded.
- Academic Level: The course is designed for students who fall short of the 12 years of schooling required in Italy or those who wish to improve their academic grounding and language proficiency before a degree.
- English Proficiency: A certificate at CEFR level B2 or above is required (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, Trinity, etc.).
WARNING: Pursuant to the Ministerial Guidelines “Procedures for the entry, stay, enrolment of international students and the related recognition of qualifications for higher education courses in Italy” for the academic year 2026/2027 and 2027/2028, a minimum English language proficiency level of B1 according to the CEFR is required for admission to the Foundation Course. Therefore, as specified in the document “Partial Amendment to the Foundation Course, Call for Applications for the 2026/2027 academic year”, the required language level for admission to Tor Vergata University of Rome Foundation Course is B1 and not B2.
