Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree provides knowledge in Linguistics, Literature, Ancient and Modern History, Territorial Science, Archaeology, Philosophy and Media Communication.
It is divided into five curricula, i.e. Archeology and History of the Classical Art, Classical and Medieval Literary Studies, Modern Literary Studies, Art History, History and Geography, which allow targeted paths also in view of the continuation of studies in a master's degree:
Basic training is guaranteed by classes which are common to five curricula., offering good institutional education in Linguistics, Italian Literature, History of Italian, Latin Literature and Geography.
Teachings of Latin Literature include acquiring basic knowledge of Latin allowing graduates to directly read the sources. A 12-ECTS exam in one of basic History disciplines is mandatory and provides for the acquisition of historical research methods.
Specific academic goals relate to different curricula through which students can opt for greater insights into a basic field or for basic training to pursue their career. Students develop critical reading of documents, be they written or iconographic, both in formal and content terms. First, they get a clear and coherent vision of the different modes (philological, linguistic historical, iconographic, etc.) documents can be studied with and then they figure out any possible connection.
At the end of this course students shall have the tools to contextualise and explore new humanistic themes and issues in terms of general knowledge and bibliographic research. Such objectives also favoured by a series of interventions to strengthen their education or to close any gaps regarding Italian and classical languages, the latter including also learning from scratch.
Career Opportunities
Graduates acquire wide training and intellectual flexibility. Hence, they master basic methodological skills to continue their study with a Master Degree or to seek employment. Flexible modulation allows to train professionals with broad and solid cultural competencies: they are thus fit to operate at intermediate level in cultural institutions, publishing and communication, and at the same time they can access the wide range of Master Degrees of their relevant School.
Work opportunities include: publishing and cultural industry, journalism (after passing the tests required to access traineeship and Association exam), institutions such as archives, libraries, cultural centres, foundations and cultural services in general.
In particular, the curricula in 'Literary and Multimedia Communication' and 'Computing for Language and Text Science' provide skills which can be immediately used for computer services in Humanities and cultural service organisation.
A possible professional evolution can be found in the field of public relations.
