Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree aims at training graduates who have high-level methodological and operational skills on advanced Computer Science and Automation topics as well as on issues of mathematical-statistical nature. In particular, graduates shall be able to deal with formal research problems in Computer Science by proposing original and innovative solutions, as well as computer problems in management/engineering via effective and efficient solutions.
The course provides thorough understanding of ITC methods, i.e. the operational basics of modern computer systems (parallel, distributed, mobile ones) and based on the Internet and the Web: dedicated algorithms, architectures, languages, software development methods.
Covered subjects include: System architecture based on the Internet and the Web. Algorithms and architectures to manage large amounts of data (‘big data’). Design and development methods for complex software applications. ‘Open-source’ software management and design. Application architecture and design for mobile systems. Cloud-based systems. Computer system and Internet security. Correctness assessment for software systems. Quality analysis and development in computer systems. Dynamics and control of industrial and service robots. Design of devices and systems for the dynamic control of production plants and systems. Modelling and control of ecological and social systems.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may work as freelancers or in consulting firms, in manufacturing or service companies and in public administration. They can carry out advanced design, planning, development and management of complex computer networks, plants and systems (Internet and Web, mobile, cloud-based, Big Data), research on advanced Computer Science and network topics, advanced training on Information Technology issues. In particular, they can deal with - system, service and web application design, - ICT for networked businesses, energy, healthcare, transport, security, - shaping, design and implementation of Internet systems, telecommunications equipment, environmental remote sensing systems, - infrastructure management for fixed and mobile networks and their users/clients, - telecommunications marketing, - e-commerce, - business management and ICT projects.
