Description and Teaching Objectives
This interclass Degree trains graduates who acquire solid expertise in the field of theoretical and methodological reflection on speech, languages and related texts. Students develop the ability to autonomously interpret and judge issues in areas relating to the Italian Language and Literature, Philology and History of Medieval, Modern and Contemporary Literature, as well as theoretical and applied Linguistics subjects.
To this end, the course offers a series of qualifying educational outcomes common to classes LM-14 Modern Philology and LM-39 Linguistics, along with further ones relevant to each class. In particular, graduates shall master: the Italian cultural tradition from Medieval to contemporary times; topics and methods of philological, linguistic and literary research with particular regard to the Italian and Romance areas; the main linguistic theories and methods; the fundamental structures of historical-natural languages - both ancient and modern.
The course is reorganised into four curricula: the two Literary (with graduation in class LM 14) and Linguistic curricula (with graduation in class LM 39) are completed through curricula in Philology (LM 14) and Society Languages (LM 14).
Career Opportunities
This Degree trains professionals capable of operating efficiently and with high-responsibility tasks in areas requiring special skills in the literary, philological and linguistic field: they focus particularly on the Italian language, literature and culture, as well as on knowledge of theoretical and applied linguistic issues.
Furthermore, it aims at providing the prerequisites necessary to train scholars who may pursue a further third-level education, as their mature critical discussion of literary, philological and linguistic problems might hence fully express itself.
The wide range of possible career opportunities for graduates include professions related to all sectors of publishing and communication, cultural institutions such as archives and libraries, research centres and press agencies.
As far as specific applications related to language training are concerned, relevant professional activities include consulting and specialised cooperation in medical research on speech therapy and audiology.
