Descrizione e obiettivi formativi
Il corso intende offrire una conoscenza completa di una o due lingue (a scelta fra inglese, francese, tedesco, spagnolo, portoghese, polacco o russo) e letterature dell´area euroamericana. Inoltre, si propone di garantire agli studenti l’acquisizione di strumenti metodologici avanzati nell´analisi linguistica e nella traduzione di testi di diversa tipologia, una qualificata competenza filologica, critica, storico-letteraria e il possesso dei principali strumenti informatici negli ambiti specifici.
Ha un unico curriculum che concentra le proprie attività formative su un unico ambito linguistico-letterario, consentendo allo studente una crescita ugualmente adeguata e specialistica anche in altri settori a sua scelta, ma coerenti con gli obiettivi formativi prefissati.

I laureati, oltre ad accedere all’insegnamento nella scuola una volta completato il processo di abilitazione e superati i concorsi previsti dalla normativa vigente, possono aspirare a funzioni di elevata responsabilità in organismi a vocazione internazionale, negli istituti di cooperazione internazionale e nelle istituzioni culturali italiane all'estero, in redazioni giornalistiche e case editrici, ma anche inserirsi come esperti linguistici e/o traduttori in istituzioni specifiche quali ministeri, archivi di Stato, biblioteche, centri culturali.

Il corso intende approfondire alcuni specifici e basilari aspetti che riguardano gli approcci e gli strumenti della ricerca etnomusicologica. Particolare attenzione sarà rivolta, dal punto di vista sia teorico che pratico, alla documentazione in audio e video sul campo degli eventi musicali (uso di microfoni, registratori, videocamere) e all’uso di metodi e tecniche di analisi della performance in ambiente digitale (analisi spettrografica del suono, analisi dell’immagine in movimento frame by frame). Saranno inoltre affrontate questioni relative al reperimento di fonti bibliografiche e audiovisive (su internet e in archivio) e all’approccio storico e diacronico nell’indagine etnomusicologica. Sarà privilegiato un approccio seminariale con un coinvolgimento degli studenti in pratiche di laboratorio e attraverso approfondimenti e ricerche individuali.
This course will address problematic issues of Italian literature’s teaching and will show the most widespread teaching methods, due to the latest Miur’s MD. It also intends to encourage students to reflect on methods and analysis, underlying the transitory nature of the most common methodologies.

Development of Samuel Beckett's drama from the first well known masterpieces to the so called dramaticules. The author's dramatic production is read and analysed in the light of his bilingualism and poetics of contraction. Special attention will be devoted to the apparition and development of female figures, and to the issue of Italian translation (how to translate a self-translator). The Metro in Soviet and Russian history, culture and literature The course will explore the theme of the metro as a specific phenomenon in Soviet and Russian cultural history. analysis of poetry, stories and novels will highlight the way in which the image of the metropolis is transformed into a metaphor, and decanted into the pages of literature.
After an initial cycle of lectures on the Spanish dramatic literature, students will be guided to the production of an essay on a specific aspect treated in the course. The essays will be discussed collectively in class (in Spanish). The final version (in Spanish) will be handed in 10 days before the oral exam and will be marked as part of the exam program.
Module A: W. v. Goethe: Faust. Der Tragödie erster Teil The course will explore some of the most relevant formal and content-related aspects of the first part of the Faust. The author took the material for the work from popular legends that had spread throughout Europe since the 16th century. The module will at first illustrate some of the versions of the myth that predate Goethe's Faust, in particular Spiess's Faustbuch and Christopher Marlowe's The Tragicall History of Doctor Faustus, and then proceed to explore Faust. Der Tragödie erster Teil with particular reference to the songs and poems included in the text as well as to the theme of intertextuality. Furthermore, the module will hioghlight some similarities between the Faustian theme and the digital world. The lessons will be held in German. Module B: Robert Walser Robert Walser is among the best-known Swiss-German authors of the 20th century. The course will investigate Der Gehülfe, Der Spaziergang and Fritz Kochers Aufsätze with particular reference to their modernity, which was misunderstood by reviewers of these texts. The lectures will focus primarily on the formal aspects of the texts: the narrative structure and techniques of representation of the inner world in Der Gehülfe; the photograms that characterise Der Spaziergang; the (simulated) amateurism in the school themes of Fritz Kochers Aufsätze, which offers interesting starting points for reflections on literary genres; the transvaluation of the fairy tale scheme in Schneewittchen and Die Jungfrau. Der Befreier. It will also examine selected poems by the author, Lectures will be held in German and texts must be read in German.
Il corso, in lingua francese, propone una riflessione sull’idea di traduzione e traducibilità nel Seicento, con particolare attenzione al ruolo dell’Académie, all’elaborazione del concetto di ‘genio’ della lingua francese e al dibattito tra Antichi e Moderni nella costruzione di una teoria della lingua volta a promuovere l’egemonia politica e culturale del paese. E’ richiesta una competenza linguistica di livello B2/C1. Il materiale di lavoro per gli studenti frequentanti sarà distribuito in aula dalla docente.
French poetry of the 20th century.
Melancholy and spleen in the poetry of the Polish Renaissance The course offers a critical excursus between the lyrics of the great poets of the sixteenth century, with analysis of texts and poetics, from the Polish-Latin poets to Jan Kochanowski and Sęp Szarzyński.
Short forms Short forms have always played a central role in the communication process. The module aims to analyze the function, purpose and structure of such forms in historical outline
The course, a continuation of the module A, aims to discuss the fundamental grammatical and morphosyntactic structures of the Polish language: noun, adjective, and pronoun declension (genitive, dative, locative, and vocative cases); verb conjugation (past and future indicative); adverbs; prepositions.
Program of Philology GERMANICA B (semester): Philology SASSONE ANCIENT The course aims to illustrate the specific phonological, morphological and syntactic of the ancient Saxon, also in comparison with other Germanic languages. It is also proposed to read, with translation and commentary philological-linguistic, of significant steps in the original language, the aim is to consolidate the linguistic and philological previously acquired, is to introduce to the criticism of the texts of the Middle Ages and the study of Germanic literatures.
The seventeenth century and the Polish-Russian literary relations. The course will focus on the history of literary relations between Poland and Russia from the period of the Renaissance and will focus on receiving works of popular literature. In particular, the Western sources of Polish-Russian facials will be analyzed with the aim of highlighting one of the crucial moments of encounter and exchange between the two cultures.
The course is divided in two sections: the first section, taking place during the first semester, is held by Laura Silvestri. The second (the “Lettorato”) is held by Barbara Jaume and Josefina Vilavella throughout the whole academic year.The examination consists of a written test, aimed at assessing linguistic competences, and of an oral part, aimed at assessing the knowledge of the contents of the whole course.
The course aims at exploring the relationship between some of the most prominent Romantic writers and Italy. "Valperga" by Mary Shelley (among other texts) and some of the short stories she composed while in the peninsula, will be the object of a thorough investigation.
The novel in contemporary Russian literature: vitality and lines of development The course aims to take up the theme of the re-elaboration and of the contamination of genres in contemporary Russian literature, with particular focus on the novel: how it has adapted/is adapting, what its function is, and what are the main tendencies. The first part of the course will be more theoretical while the second part will deal, in a more specific manner, with samples of texts.

After an initial cycle of lectures, students will be guided to the production of an essay on a specific aspect treated in the course. The essays will be discussed collectively in class (in Spanish). W. v. Goethe: Faust. Der Tragödie erster Teil The course will concentrate on some of the most significant aspects of content and form of Goethe’s Faust. Der Tragödie erster Teil, the most acclaimed text of German speaking literature. The author took the Stoff for his magnum opus from popular legends that circulated throughout Europe starting from the 16th century. In a first stage, the course will illustrate the Faust of the early books, including The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlow, and it will then proceed to explore Goethe's Faust shedding light on themes, motives, locations and metaphers of the play. The course also aims at giving the students a survey of the interpretations of the figures of Faust and of Gretchen. The lessons will be held in German and the texts will have to be read in German.
Specific problems related to Polish Language and to its correct use: declensions of proper nouns, type and declension of the numeral, enphasis of words, correct use of idiomatic expressions.

Module A: Stylistics and the English Language: Theories and Approaches. The module is aimed at giving an overview of stylistics in the framework of contemporary linguistic studies. Some key concepts, issues and currents will be analysed both in a historical and a theoretical perspective. Module B: Examples of Stylistic analysis: the case of Literary Modernism. After the theoretical contextualisation of Module A, this module will be devoted to practical analyses from two Modernist masterpieces (James Joyce's Ulysses and Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway). Basic concepts such as defamiliarisation, reported speech, stream of consciousness and others will be analysed and discussed starting from the actual original texts. Second year students will be asked to present a sample of stylistic analysis as an oral report to the class.

Short forms 2 Module B Short forms will focus on the linguistics and poetics of short texts in the literary field.
The course will take up the theme of language in the works of Michail Bulgakov through, on the one hand, analysis, understanding and translation of extracts from his novel Il maestro e Margherita and on the other through analysis of the film of the book. In particular some episodes of the series Master i Margarita, shot by the filmmaker Vladimir Bortko (Master i Margarita 2005, https://www.culture.ru/movies/1608/master-i-margarita ) will be analysed in detail. Analysis of the two texts will make it possible not only to highlight the linguistic specificities of the two texts, but also to become more aware the diversity of the challenges translators will meet in these two translation contexts: literary and multimedia.

The course will be divided into two parts: the first part will be devoted to the study of the American literature, from the American Renaissance to 1920s. The second part of the module will be centred on Kate Chopin (The Awakening, 1899) and Edith Wharton (Ethan Frome, 1911).

HISPANOAMERICAN LITERATURE Prerequisites: knowledge of Spanish language Objectives: introduce the students to basic principles of Hispanoamerican Literature through Los ríos profundos, a José María Arguedas’ novel, that describes the complex process of transculturation done by a boy who is half Spanish and half native. The exam consists in an oral test, aimed at assessing the knowledge of the contents of the course.

After an initial cycle of lectures, students will be guided to the production of an essay on a specific aspect treated in the course. The essays will be discussed collectively in class (in Spanish). The final version (in Italian) will be handed in 10 days before the oral exam and will be marked as part of the exam program. Mod. B Title: History and memory in contemporary Spanish Literature from 1980 to 2023 (narrative) The course aims to trace the evolution of the genre of the novel between 1980 and 2023. After an initial cycle of lectures, students will be guided to the production of an essay on a specific aspect treated in the course. The essays will be discussed collectively in class (in Spanish). The final version (in Italian), of about 35.000 characters, will be handed in 10 days before the oral exam and will be marked as part of the exam program.
Including literature in the FLE (Français langue étrangère) classroom
The course aims to present the peculiarities of the translation of comics and graphic novels from Polish to Italian. Module A (6 ECTS): Theoretical, methodological and terminological issues related to these polysemic texts, and the fundamental translation strategies and techniques will be discussed in the first part of the course. Module B (6 ECTS): The second part of the course will be devoted to practical exercises from Polish to Italian on a selection of texts provided during the course.
The course will study the Balkan linguistic area, from ancient to modern times, using the methods of historical and areal linguistics.

Distant reading: un nuovo paradigma computazionale per l'analisi del testo letterario Il corso intende prendere in esame le applicazione delle tecnologie di text mining per lo studio e l'analisi di testi letterari. Il contesto teorico in cui si collocano questi nuovi metodi computazionali di analisi del testo è stato delineato da Franco Moretti che ha introdotto il termine 'distant reading' per indicare come essi introducano un vero e proprio cambio di paradigma negli studi letterari. In questo nuovo paradigma la critica non deve più concentrare il suo sguardo sulle singole opere, siano esse i grandi capolavori del canone o meno, bensì sui macrofenomeni emergenti dalla totalità della produzione letteraria, sia a livello sincronico sia a livello diacronico. Il corso è composto da una sezione di carattere metodologica e teorica e da una di carattere pratico e applicativo. Nella parte applicativa si prenderanno in esame alcuni dei principali metodi di text mining per gli studi letterari e si utilizzeranno alcuni dei tool più diffusi in questo ambito [R e Mallet].

Masters of the 20th Century Russian Theatre) playwrights, texts, theatres, revolutions. The course takes the students on a journey through the trajectory of Russian theatre during the first three decades of the 1900, the period that A.M. Ripellino called “the golden age of the art of producing”. The main topics include un-depth study Konstantin Stanislavskij and the Moscow Arts Theatre; Vsevolod Mejerchol’d and Vera Komissarževskaja; Evgenij Vachtangov, Aleksandr Jakovevlič Kornblit (Taírov) and Biomechanics acting technique developed by Vsevolod Meyerhold.

Travel Literature The course will deal with travel accounts by German speaking writers of the 18th, of the 19th and of the 20th century travelling to Italy and / or to England. Besides well known works – the Italienische Reise by Goethe and the travel accounts Reisen eines Deutschen in England im Jahr 1782 and Reisen eines Deutschen in Italien im Jahr 1786 by K. Ph. Moritz - the course will concentrate on less explored texts by the Swiss writers Albrecht von Haller and Heinrich Federer. The module will also focus on Ein Sommer in London by Fontane, the only Geraman writer of the second half of the 19th century who spent several years in Britain. The lessons will be held in German and the texts will have to be read in German.

Module B includes theoretical reflection on the history of the Russian language and practical reflection on the analysis of various types of texts from the stylistic and functional point of view. Particular attention will be paid to the analysis of technical-scientific, official, political, economic, diplomatic, juridical and bureaucratic styles as well as on colloquial language and slang. This will be achieved through translating and analysing texts of diverse typologies, and will help develop both oral and written comprehension of the Russian language.
Title of the course: History of Translation of Spanish Poetry in Italy. Part 2 Students will be introduced to Theory and Practice of Spanish Poetry Translation realized by italian translators, poets and critics during the XX-XXI centuries. Students will study theorical and methodological issues and face workshop classes about poetic texts and their translation from a synchronic and diachronic point of view.
