o Course type: Master Degree
o Duration: 2 years
o Access type: Open with curriculum evaluation
o School: Engineering
o Department: Industrial Engineering
o Course code: H37
Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree conveys specialised training regarding the study of operational principles and design of mechanical components, machines and complex systems, industrial plants and processes. Furthermore, it addresses the issues of process automation and monitoring techniques for mechanical systems and industrial plants. In line with sustainable development demands, much attention is given to the impact assessment of engineering solutions concerning mechanical systems in social, physical and environmental contexts. Methodological objectives include: assisted mechanical design; machine design; mechanical, thermomechanical and mechatronic systems with innovative technologies integrating experimentation with theoretical study and simulations; development and management of conventional and innovative industrial processes. The main educational goal is acquiring critical thinking and intervention autonomy in Mechanical Engineering and in the various fields which characterise it.
Such training includes teachings that deepen theoretical and scientific aspects, but also important design and research activities. It shall be concluded with a final dissertation demonstrating subject mastery, independent work skills and good communication skills.
Career Opportunities
Graduates in Mechanical Engineering can operate as freelancers or in manufacturing, services and public administration. They typically work in areas such as basic and applied research, product and process innovation, production development, advanced design, planning and programming, management of complex systems.
Graduates can perform different tasks in contexts characterised by high-level innovation and an international scope. Particularly relevant tasks cover: design of mechanical systems; design and implementation of production processes and industrial plants; direction and management of production processes; plant management and control. Due to the type of education and the conveyed level of specialisation, development and management of process and product innovation suit graduates in Mechanical Engineering particularly well - both within companies and in the specific field of research and development.
