DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING OBJECTIVES
This Degree trains professionals able to make and/or adapt, apply and provide prostheses, orthoses and devices to replace, correct and support the musculoskeletal system.
Such training provides students with the tools and skills needed to take charge of patients and to design, apply and market orthopaedic devices. Along with basic skills, transversal skills relating to management, innovation and relationship with patients are conveyed too. Furthermore, specific professional and technical aspects are deepened, e.g. through traineeships starting from the first year and supported by a tutor.
In detail, during the first year students become acquainted with university education and experience a direct contact with businesses via an traineeship. This aims at guiding them in terms of relevant professional fields and acquisition of key competences.
The second year focuses on clinical problems related to the musculoskeletal system in medical, surgical and diagnostic areas, as well as on necessary therapeutic and rehabilitative interventions. Thanks to traineeships students acquire skills in all phases of technical evaluation, design, creation, testing, validation and delivery of medical devices.
The third year aims at deepening specialised disciplines in technical health and biomechanical areas as well as at conveying knowledge about processes and methods of professional practice. Basing on the skills gained and the cases observed during the first two years of technical-practical traineeship, students can choose a topic for their final dissertation and follow clinical cases under the supervision of a ward tutor: hence, they can examine specific clinical cases from the beginning to the end, make orthopaedic devices and verify the rehabilitative effectiveness of provided medical devices.
