Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree trains professionals with specific expertise related to performing diagnostic-instrumental tests which are indispensable for the semiotics of ophthalmologic pathologies, motor and sensory visual disorders as well as knowledge of the most important elements underlying pathological processes. Rehabilitation and/or therapeutic interventions focus on such aspects in developmental age, adulthood and geriatric age.
Professional skills are developed through theoretical and practical training, which also includes the acquisition of behavioural skills. Particular importance is given to practical activities and clinical training, as they are an integral and qualifying part of vocational education. Those are carried out under dedicated, professional tutors' supervision and guidance and are coordinated by a professor.
Course attendance is mandatory for all activities - both theoretical classes and traineeship.
Career Opportunities
This Degree qualifies graduates as healthcare operators as Orthoptists and Ophthalmology Assistants.
Graduates are responsible for the organisation, planning and quality of professional acts performed under their duties. They can work in prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and functional evaluation within public or private healthcare facilities, either as employees or freelancers.
Under a doctor's prescription, they know how to treat motor and sensory visual disorders; they can use instrumental techniques in Semeiology and Ophthalmology and can perform ophthalmic diagnostic tests which are useful for the ophthalmologic definition of clinical conditions: visual acuity evaluation, assessment of ocular motility and binocular vision disorders, diagnostic imaging tests, rehabilitation of visually impaired patients.
