Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree provides: thorough understanding of the theoretical and methodological tools of philosophical studies and historical evolution of philosophical thought; an appreciable understanding of the reasons underlying philosophical problems and the philosophical dimension of Hermeneutics and communication problems in all contexts of life - both in ethical and cognitive terms; tools for aesthetic thinking and essential knowledge relating to Ethics, History, Political Philosophy, Contemporary Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Cognitive Sciences.
In order to set out their curriculum, students can choose from advanced subjects in a number of fields and take advantage of the teachings to be involved in research activities carried out by the faculty. The Antique field studies the origins of Western civilisation in the Greek and Roman eras as well as in the early centuries of Christianity. The historical-philosophical field studies the evolution of Philosophy over time, showing its internal dynamics and correlations with other cultural phenomena. The field of Ethics explores both foundational and applicative issues. Furthermore, special attention is devoted to disciplines and themes involving Economics, Education and Art.
Career Opportunities
This Degree can give access to growing professions, such as philosophical counselling at a personal and business level, in particular for personnel management within production facilities. Just as for a BoA in Philosophy - though with higher skills - graduates can carry out professional tasks in the service and cultural industries, in cultural institutions as well as public and private bodies (study offices, internal relations, press and public relations, culture promotion, adult education, organisation and management of library, archival and documentary materials). Moreover, they can coordinate intercultural relations and social services in a multi-ethnic, multilingual and multi-religious society.
Moreover, this Degree confers graduates a level of historical-theoretical knowledge in Philosophy (with some integrations on pedagogical aspects) which enables them to access selections and become teachers in upper secondary schools, pursuant to the Italian applicable Law. For those who wish to continue their studies, the course can be considered as an introduction to a PhD run by an Advanced School in Philosophy Studies with an international and prestigious faculty. This may lead to a scientific career within universities.
